Various methods are in vogue for identifying bio‐indicators. But these take into consideration only the percentage abundance of the species at a definite period. A new method of analysis—Zach's program—is proposed taking into consideration all the available methods and incorporating more statistical analysis. The application has been illustrated through the studies of the coconut retting grounds adjacent to the Kayamkulam lake (Lat. 9°7'N and 9°16'N, Long. 76°20'E and 75'28'E); and advantages of the method are elaborated
