Bioremediation, an in situ sludge treatment process was not one of the four, out of seven retained, selected by the US EPA for in depth examination in a recently completed study. It appears to be, nevertheless, a successful approach which can be used at a fraction of the cost of more traditional methods. The Sheboygan Bay harbour and the Moervaart projects, recently reported upon, are discussed in this paper
