Solid waste has been identified as the most important source of environmental deterioration in Nigerian cities. Leaf constitutes about one‐third of the total waste generated. However, there are significant relationships between some socio‐economic variables and the type of waste generated. Income and education are greatly associated with the production of paper and metal waste. On the other hand, modern building is negatively associated with the production of leaf waste. Composting and landfilling methods were suggested for the disposal of the waste
