In order to evaluate the effect of attention upon human visual evoked response, reaction time task and no reaction time task were combined with fixed vs. variable interstimulus intervals in a 2 by 2 factorial design. In Experiment 1 a flashing light 8cm×8cm square was presented 30 times to 8 adultSs. The averaged evoked response did not vary with any of the factors. In Experiment 2 a smaller flashing light 4cm×4cm square was presented 30 times to the adultSs. The results showed that the later components (P2-N2; N2-P3) were associated with larger amplitude for the reaction time condition than the no reaction time condition whereas no effect of the interstimulus interval was observed. It is suggested that the physical factor of the stimulus used in Experiment 1 rather than the psychological factor is the major criteria of the amplitude measure
