By means of measuring the enhancement of the electrical excitability of the eye when it is pre-illuminated by stimulating patterns, Motokawa has discovered a number of phenomena which are now well known as the retinal induction The induction is divided into two types, direct and indirect, and it is the latter which especially attracts our interest because it propagates over the retina from one part to another, according to Motokawa, in the form of wave exactly in the same way as light does in space. In fact, marvellous demonstrations were made that in the propagation of induction the phenomena of absorption, reflection, refraction and even the Doppler effect do occur in the retina or somewhere else (15, 16). Besides, Motokawa in his ingenious experiments succeeded in measuring the index of re
