In the present stage of its evolution, ethnography faces the need for studies of the culture of an ethnos that will enable it to describe that culture as a series of interrelated subsystems, each of which fulfills specific functions of adaptation to changing conditions in the social and natural environment. This requires the creation of much closer creative links between ethnography, and cultural anthropology, which investigates a culture theoretically as a specific integral phenomenon. For cultural anthropology, in turn, the experience of ethnography in the study of peoples is very important, especially from the point of view of the local historical diversity of human culture. The basic principles and the conceptual systems in which this experience is crystallized are also of course important. The mutuality of interests between these different areas of science has placed on our agenda the development of a special type of integrative studies, which we may call ethno-culturological studies.1
