Fossil silicoflagellates of the genera Corbisema, Cornua, Dictyocha, Lyramula, and Vattacerta are abundant in the Marca Shale Member, Moreno Formation (Maastrichtian). Corbisema is represented by four morphotypes: Corbisema geometrica Hanna, C. geometrica Hanna var. apiculata Jousé, C. trigona (Zit‐tel) Deflandre, and C. triacantha (Ehrenberg) Hanna var. apiculata Lemmermann forma lateradiata Schulz. Corbisema geometrica Hanna is present throughout the section, while the other three morphotypes appear and disappear in irregular cycles. This cyclic occurrence is thought to be a response to fluctuating environmental conditions, with maximum diversity coincident with optimum conditions
