Scottish Economic & Social History, vol. 7, 1987 contained a comprehensive register of research on topics of economic and social historical interest. This register is intended, therefore, to supplement that earlier compilation. Section a) includes information on new researchers, on those who have recently come to the attention of your compiler and on established workers who have developed new interests over the last year. Section b), similarly, records newly-registered postgraduate students; and, as usual, section c) notes theses sustained since the last issue of the register. Section d) deals with recent research awards. This year it is appropriate to mention especially the magnificent gift of over £1,000,000 from an anonymous donor to the University ofGlasgow to promote Business History and contact between academics and the business community in Scotland. Glasgow University in particular, but the Society in general must welcome this generous vote of confidence in the work done in Business History in Glasgow over the last 30 years. Thanks are due to Graham Cummings (Strathclyde), Martin Chick (Edinburgh), Ian Donnachie (The Open University), Tom Hart (Glasgow), Alan Robertson (St Andrews), Neil Tranter (Stirling) and Chris Whatley (Dundee) for their help, and to all those who supplied details about their work. Information for the next registermay be sent to any of the above, or directly to your compiler at the Department of Economic History, University of Aberdeen, Edward Wright Building, Dunbar Street, Aberdeen.
