Editor's Note: The author of this article visited the Sultanate of Oman early in 1976 and spent some time with the Civil Aid Departments and the Flying Doctor Service. The archipelago of Kuria Muria (Khuryan-Muryan) lies in the bay of the same name some twenty-five miles south of the coast of Oman. The islands are five in number, but only the largest of the group, AlHallaniyya, is now inhabited, having a reliable supply of fresh water. The islands extend over some forty-five miles and, from west to east, are Al-Hisikiyya, As-Sawda' (Soda), Al-Hallaniyya, Al-Gibiliyya, and Gharzawt. 1
