The whole world has embarked upon a large scale social experiment which is the demolition of marriage and the elevation of divorce. The escalation of divorce rate in Thohoyandou provoked the researchers to venture into a qualitative inquiry on the major causes of divorce in an attempt to answer frequently asked questions. Snowball sampling technique which overlooks probability theory was embraced and information was gathered through the use of an interview schedule. Data was analyzed using phenomenology analysis. Results shows affective dimensions of their marriage relationship, which encompass marital infidelity, lack of communication, parental intervention, prolonged distance between couples, and violence as the causes of divorce. In addition to the primary sources of divorce, sexual plasticity, religion, normalization of remarriage, higher expectations upon entering into marriage and lack of premarital understanding placed pressure on marital relationship
