Islam stands entirely in a book, the Qur’ân : its Arabic text is so precise in its definitive written version from about thirteen centuries and gives to all muslims the content of their faith, the details of their rites and the norms of their social life. How could Christian people find in its text a revelation of God’s will and maybe of His transcendant mystery ? The paper explores firstly what was said about by Christians from the 7th century until the 16th, and secondly after the 16th century until modern times (with Marracci and orientalism). But what it is said today about the « christian appreciations of the Qur’ân » after having submitted the authenticity of its text to the requirements of historical critics ? Following the dialogical view point of Mohamed Talbi about a respectful Christian attitude towards it and the renewed theologies of the scriptures of non christian religions, Robert Caspar and Claude Geffré propose towards the Qur’ân the christian appreciations « the more understanding » of it and the more in coherence with the christian faith : existential approach, classical approach, broadness of revelation understood as history and significance. All believers of religious traditions are still and always theologically « challenged by their Scriptures »
