In Zeiten von Krisen und Transformationsbestrebungen erlangen explizite Zukunftsprojektionen besondere Relevanz. Planend, hoffend und wünschend nehmen Akteure auf die Zukunft Bezug und versuchen ihre Lebenspraxis in unsicheren Kontexten zu gestalten. Der vorliegende Beitrag eruiert vor dem Hintergrund sozialphänomenologischer und pragmatistischer Handlungstheorien die Bedeutung von Zukunft für lebensgeschichtliche Vollzüge, Erfahrungen und Narrationen. Anhand eines Fallbeispiels aus dem Kontext des militanten Salafismus und in Auseinandersetzung mit der sozialwissenschaftlichen Biografieforschung entwickelt er die methodologischen und sozialtheoretischen Umrisse eines Konzepts von „Zukunftsbezügen“, das ermöglicht, die lebensgeschichtliche Bedeutung von Zukunft rekonstruktiv zu erforschen
