The review of 2018 Vassily Vereshchagin's monographic exhibition at the State Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val focuses on several important topics of the Oriental Studies: The artist, most often associated with a mountain of skulls in his painting “Apotheosis of War”, is shown as a systemic orientalist with a special method— impartial, stringer-like and seemingly detached. Using the example of his “They Triumph” painting, the author examines her hypothesis of this artistic device, giving along the way a brief description of Vereshchagin as an “underestimated painter”
