The Contributions of Asia-Located Sport Sociologists and Historians to the Global Economy of Knowledge

Scoping reviews commonly identify mainstream topics and knowledge gaps in a particular field of science. By using the metadata provided by the platform Scopus, the present article discusses the quantitative and qualitative contribution of Asia-located scholars to the global economy of knowledge in the field of sport history and sport sociology. It suggests that Asia-located scholars have the potential to offer a larger and more original contribution to the existing literature by continuing to publish in the most inclusive journals, developing journals such as the Asian Journal of Sport History & Culture, and departing from state-centred and professional sport–centred approaches
