Badania na cmentarzysku w Malborku-Wielbarku prowadzone były w latach 1927–1936, 1984–1985 oraz 2008–2021. W ich trakcie odkryto łącznie ponad 2200 pochówków, datowanych od fazy A1 młodszego okresu przedrzymskiego po okres wędrówek ludów (faza D1). W 9 grobach znaleziono pozostałości 12 tkanin i 1 nitki. Wszystkie tekstylia były bardzo źle zachowane, a przetrwały z reguły dzięki sąsiedztwu przedmiotów metalowych. Były to tkaniny lniane w splocie płóciennym i wełniane w splocie skośnym 2/2, typowe dla obszaru kultury wielbarskiej oraz szerzej – środkowej i północnej Europy
