The three-volume bio-bibliographical handbook comprises the German-language literature of present-day countries of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania from the Middle Ages to the present. Literature from St. Petersburg has also been included due to the strong ties that were established between German-Balts and the capital of the Russian Empire over the course of time. The work begins with an introduction to the changeful history and its social stratifications in order to provide proper chronological classification of the biographies and texts of the authors. To this end, an overview of theater life as a cultural meeting place is also included. The handbook aims for the most extensive compilation possible of the individual works. With this handbook, the authors present the first extensive lexicon of German-language literature of the Baltic States, which will be of interest to literary specialists as well as historians
