Capital social e instituciones en el proceso de cambio económico

Las instituciones han pasado a ocupar un lugar destacado en la agenda de investigación de los economistas y los politólogos en las últimas décadas. Al mismo tiempo, la literatura del capital social se ha desarrollado de forma intensa desde la publicación del libro de Robert Putnam Making Democracy Work en 1993. En este trabajo perfilamos ambas tendencias para sostener la relevancia de los procesos de cambio institucional sobre las bases teóricas de la nueva economía institucional, en un marco que puede integrar el enfoque del capital social. La reciente aparición en 2005 del libro de Douglass North Understanding the Process of Economic Change constituye una propuesta de extensión del nuevo institucionalismo que propone novedosos fundamentos teóricos sobre los que abordar el estudio de las instituciones, el capital social y el desarrollo económico
