This essay deals with the situation of sociologists in the complex system of professions. Some characteristics of the sociological profession now-a-days are analyzed against the current situation in Spain. The analysis is used as a point of departure for developing a strategy for collective action between the academy and the professional domain of Sociology. Three elements are discussed in order to improve the participation of sociologists in the labour market: the codification of sociology work, the professional identity and the organization of university degrees
