The third book of the Bella Parisiacae urbis by Abbo of Saint-Germain-des-Prés is known for the presence of a high number of uncommon words, among which Greek loanwords play a major role. Moreover, about half the words of Bk 3 are provided with glosses in all its manuscripts, attesting to the original plan as conceived by Abbo, who was also the author of the apparatus. The main sources of Abbo’s words/glosses are the Liber glossarum and the Scholica Graecarum glossarum. With regard to the second glossarial compilation, the study of Abbo’s sources is significantly advanced by the discovery that a number of the items of Bk 3 have a counterpart in the fourth glossary of Barcelona, Arxiu de la Corona d’Aragó, MS Ripoll 74. The source used by Abbo was likely not the version of the Scholica as represented by Vatican City, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, MS Reg. lat. 215, but rather a French ancestor of Ripoll 74. This finding has relevant implications for the study of the genesis and the development of the Scholica and the role of a manuscript such as Reg. lat. 215, which contains the standard or Carolingian version of this glossary
