La función de los oráculos en el Imperio Inca

Los oráculos a saber, santuarios controlados por sacerdotes allí residentes, a través de los cuales las divinidades del lugar daban respuestas a quienes las consultaban representaron una de las instituciones más importantes del mundo andino antiguo. La actividad oracular parece, en efecto, haber tenido, entre las sociedades del Perú prehispánico, todas las características de lo que el gran sociólogo y etnólogo francés Marcel Mauss, en su clásico Essai sur le don (1923-1924), llamó un «hecho social total», esto es, uno de aquellos fenómenos polivalentes y multidimensionales que abarcan diferentes esferas - religiosa, política, jurídica, económica, artística, etcétera de la vida sociocultural y «ponen en movimiento a la totalidad de la sociedad y de sus instituciones» (Mauss 1965: 286)
