This chapter examines the ways in which gendered roles and responsibilities are understood and negotiated within the family setting with specific reference to the production and consumption of food and meals. It is based upon a study which examined the effect on the family of one member’s change in diet, and focused upon specific kinds of change in diet: a slimming diet, becoming a vegetarian or being advised to change diet as part of treatment for a medically diagnosed condition
