This chapter responds to the four main points by which Porpora sides with the robophobiacs and rejects my thought experiment, supporting the minoritarian position of robophilia. He bases his case on the proposition that ‘sentience rather than sapience is the sine qua non for consciousness’. Here I argue against the four premises on which that statement is founded: (1) according ontological primacy to sentience, meaning that the state of the real world is of lesser importance than our ‘feelings about it’; (2) that there is a binary division between sentience and sapience, whereas I advance a dialectical relationship between them; (3) any emergent properties and powers deriving from joint-action between AIs and human beings are omitted if not disallowed; (4) Porpora argues in favour of ‘feelings’ as the basis upon which ‘worth’ is assigned, which I reject in this chapter
