Biography of saints aimed to present the exemplary incarnations of the Christian virtues by their martyr-death and by miracle-working capacities. However the hagiographic works are valuable as historical narrations that provide the local tradition and customs. Thus, within the Armenian hagiography a biography of an individual saint (vita) and the description of the saint’s deeds and miracles that constitutes the saint’s martyrdom (passio) – or a combination of these two – are valuable sources for the Mongol period as well. The Armenian hagiographic work presents a fascinating picture of the ethno-religious complexity of the realm, allowing us to trace the situation of the Armenians in Anatolia under the Ilkhans
