In this chapter I argue the following: first, that the global world ushering in the new millennium creates a distinctive opportunity for comparison (by which is meant in this chapter the comparative method, especially as used in anthropology); second, that anthropology faces an appropriate moment in its history to seize this opportunity; and third, that, in so doing, comparison can be usefully engaged with issues in the world. Pursuant to this three-step strategy, I explore and propose a deeper immersion in the cultural milieu that constitutes the anthropologist’s own life-world, especially his or her regional or local milieu. My illustrations of ways to enter this life-world range from outreach and activism to regionalism and Volkskunde. I call this approach action comparison
