Suddhaseel Sen’s contribution on cross-cultural exchanges between Indian and Western musicians is prefaced by an evaluation of the Saidian paradigm, but then analytically engages with the musical aesthetics of Rabindranath Tagore and John Foulds. How should one analyse music that is self-consciously based on the idea of cross-cultural exchange? Sen replies that ‘if the musicians whose work is being analysed were bi-musical, then the analyst also needs to be bi-musical.’
