Cette étude, texte d’une communication orale lors d’une conférence en français sur l’hybridation culturelle, est centrée sur un article publié par Salman Rushdie en 1997, et sur un livre de Parama Roy paru en 1998. Tandis que Rushdie, avocat impénitent de la « bâtardise » culturelle, soutient que la « littérature indo-anglienne » représente peut-être la contribution la plus précieuse que l’Inde ait donnée au monde des livres, Roy, postmoderniste de stricte obédience, se concentre sur un échantillonnage de cas paradigmatiques du passage de la frontière entre « races » et cultures comme moyen pour déconstruire la question de l’ethnicité et de la formation du sujet en Asie du Sud. Le présent article est en son fond une critique du livre de Roy ainsi qu’un commentaire sur l’hybridation culturelle, thème que j’ai abordé dans un certain nombre d’études antérieures
