So much of sports reporting centres on scores, but international contests also contain elements magnifying nationalism. Consider the importance in an Asian context whenever India and Pakistan "play", particularly in cricket. Each match is reported on by groups of journalists, and the coverage has been found to highlight stereotypes, ideologies and "us against them" narratives. This chapter examines national identity in sports journalism using the 2014–2015 Australia–India Test cricket series as a platform. A content analysis of 1,265 articles across eight newspapers in Australia and India was undertaken in conjunction with 18 interviews with newspaper cricket journalists. The results provide a valuable overview of elements of national identity in contemporary media
