This chapter presents the outcome of a pilot research project aimed at identifying profiles of undergraduate students who have suicidal ideation and understanding the sociological relationships of suicide in the studied university population. The "plural actor theory," created by Bernard Lahire, was the main theoretical-methodological reference of the project whose initial intention was to observe the relationship of these profiles with the sociohistorical context of the subjects and the findings of the literature on the subject, including the classic works of mile Durkheim and Karl Marx. The main goal was to provide data that would help the university community understand the phenomenon and find ways to promote changes that would contribute to social well-being in the academic environment. We collected some data in 2021 through an online questionnaire answered by 144 students, which corresponded to 17.54% of the total number of students enrolled at the Federal University of Viosa, Campus Florestal.Since we did not obtain a representative sample of the student population on the campus, the presented results are not generalizable, and the construction of the profiles was compromised. In addition, contradictory results were found in relation to the adopted theoretical framework, as well as apparently distorted percentages due to the low number of responses. However, other factors contributed to the abandonment of the investigation, configuring a journey of frustrated research
