The subject of this Conference is a drama which took place in Cambridge in the early 1930s — the drama connected with the writing of the General Theory. Details of the dramatis personae will shortly be presented to us by Austin Robinson. Let me here only note that this was a great drama not only in retrospect, but also in the eyes of its protagonists at the time. Indeed, the huge mass of written materials that has survived from this drama is itself testimony to the conviction of these protagonists that these materials would ultimately have significant historical value
