The Targums are a part of the literature of the sages whose purpose is to translate and explain the Hebrew Scriptures into Aramaic. Unlike the translations of the Bible into Greek, these Aramaic translations were especially intended for the Palestinian Jewish communities. This makes them of great importance for our understanding of the attitudes to the Tora in the Land of Israel during the period of Mishna and Talmud. This chapter describes Extant Targurns: the Targurn of Leviticus from Qumran, the Targurn of job from Qumran, Targum Onkelos on the Tora, Targurn Pseudo-Yonatan on the Tora, the fragmentary Targurn Yerushalmi on the Tora, Targurn Neofiti, lost Targurns, Geniza Targurn fragments, Targurn Yonatan on the Prophets, the Targum on the Hagiographa, Targurns on the five Megillot and the Toseftot. A fragmentary selection of a Targum of Leviticus was found on ripped parchment in the caves of the Judaean Desert. Keywords: Aramaic scriptures; extant Targurns; Hebrew scriptures; Israel land; Mishna period; Palestinian Jewish communities; sages literature; Talmud period; Tora
