The use of Foucault’s analysis on governmentality in migration studies has accentuated an already strong tendency to view migration and asylum through the lens of institutions and technologies of power, rather than the one of populations subject to these control and power devices. This chapter is an attempt to shift our political and epistemological focus in regards to migration and asylum policies, by analysing the process of political subjectivation caused by these policies. We call ‘insurgent politics’, the strategies, resistances, knowledges used by migrants, refugees, deportees to circumvent and fight the migration and asylum regimes. To try to give a theoretical framework to this politics from below, we use and discuss the notions of infrapolitics, autonomy, self-organization but we also discuss how technologies of power are constantly reframed to integrate and bypass these insurgent politics
