The concepts of the foundation matrix, social unconscious, and large group identity could all be understood in terms of a continuum from the fluid to the solid. Foundation matrix clearly emphasising a process character and then the concepts gradually turning to phenomena that are considered to be more stable. Excluded from discourse and negotiation, they tend to be static or even untouchable, though nonetheless they are still embedded in the overall processes of the foundation matrix. The foundation matrix includes all dimensions of communication—including the non-verbal, for example, facial expressions, gestures, postures, and mimetically transferred meanings. The different dimensions are not separate, but more or less different perspectives concerning a more comprehensive process, one being the condition of the other and vice versa, existing in and through the other. This conceptualisation is one of S. H. Foulkes’s main theoretical achievements
