This chapter describes Grada Kilomba’s decolonial practice, by accompanying the natural shift from her theoretical work as a scholar towards her becoming an artist through a ‘hybrid’ praxis – a knowledge produced through performance (art). Scientific knowledge is not universal nor neutral, but rather, as the Portuguese interdisciplinary artist and writer Kilomba stresses, it is ‘always located somewhere and always written by someone, and this someone has a history’. For her, in the white conceptual world, the Black subject is identified as that ‘bad’ object, embodying the aspects of the white society repressed and made taboo. She demonstrates that the violence emanating from power relations imbued the colonized subject with the very characteristics and neuroses that the colonizer denied embodying. Her artistic practice can be understood as part of a healing and recognition movement within the Afro-Luso-Brazilian space through which her work has been a reference for many
