This chapter critically interrogates settler colonial aspects and logics of space exploration by placing these logics in direct comparison to Indigenous conceptions of outer space engagement and exploration. Rather than subscribing to the myth that human exploration of outer space is necessary due to environmental degradation, this chapter challenges both the ‘inevitability’ of ecological collapse and the accompanying impetus to look to the stars for humanity’s salvation, challenging the reader, and broader society, to think on why we go to space, and how we might be able to do so in an ethical manner
