Field Marshals Joseph Gallieni (1849–1916) and Hubert Lyautey (1854–1934), undeniably two of the most outstanding figures in French colonial history, have both left a profound mark on the history of French colonisation. It is due to a great sense of public relations that both men, the master, Governor-General of Madagascar from 1896 to 1905 and his disciple, the general resident commissioner of France in Morocco between 1912 and 1925, have become legendary figures. This chapter sets out to study the case of the campaign of colonial propaganda led by the two officers during their stay in metropolitan France between 1899 and 1900.KeywordsPublic RelationMilitary RegimeFrench ColonialColonial SectionNaval BaseThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
