China has drastically increased investment in its international media with the goals of airing its views, enhancing the country' s global influence, and showcasing its rise as a great power in a nonthreatening and nonconfrontational manner. As noted in previous chapters, media organizations such as China Central Television (CCTV), Xinhua News Agency, and People's Daily have all received substantial financial support from the government in recent years for their ambitious global expansion.
