Maurice Dobb was renowned for his erudite understanding of Marxian, classical, and neoclassical economics. He studied at Cambridge and London. He began teaching at Cambridge in 1924 and remained there until his retirement in 1967. His work on Russian and Soviet development established Dobb as a leading scholar. Dobb’s Studies in the Development of Capitalism (1946) had a massive influence on political economy, history, and social theory. He theorized on imperfect competition and the instability, stagnation, and crisis tendencies of capitalism throughout his life. His contributions on economic development and planning were highly celebrated, and he was a foremost historian of economic thought
