LJ: I am grateful to Nigel Rapport who first mooted the idea of a dialogue as a fitting conclusion to this volume. Before the dialogue got underway, Marilyn Strathern suggested that we table a 'position' statement on knowledge exchange as a medium of (scholarly) writing. Not having thought of this question in explicit terms before, I quickly put together the 'position' below. I hasten to add that it is mine alone, serving as a heuristic that starts with a description of conditions most academics face in their professional lives and then adding some reflections on what we might make of these experiences.
