Sandis begins by analysing contemporary understandings of heritage, pointing out that often it assumes touristic associations. However, she argues that heritage can be non-cultural, or even anti-cultural, and may not explicitly relate to the past, or be a celebration of the past. She goes on to discuss the rights relating to heritage, and concludes with the statement that heritage, cultural or otherwise, is not always positive
