The most influential anthropologists of the past fifty years have all been in agreement that the peoples of the world all think in the same ways. The few dissenting voices, such as Lucien Levy-Bruhll and Ernst Cassirer, have for the most part been either ridiculed or ignored by the mainstream of the discipline. Emile Durkheim, Franz Boas, Claude Lévi-Strauss2 and innumerable lesser names have all: Assumed, in short, that primitive thought is distinguishable from our own only by its content, and that the actual structures of thought, cognitive processes, are the same in all cultures: 'The reasoning and thinking processes of different people in different cultures do not differ... just their values, beliefs, and ways of classifying things.'3 KeywordsCognitive ProcessThought ProcessMoral GoodnessThought ContentAnthropological PerspectiveThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
