This chapter aims to bring U.S.–Korean collaborations to the fore of debates over media globalization, and the overarching structural dimensions of transnational media cultures and practices. In particular, this chapter analyzes the factors behind the latest phase of Korean media culture and practice, exploring the theoretical implications of the non-Western actor’s media production and distribution in the globally networked society. It first discusses the rise of Korean television formats in the U.S. media industries and then proposes the third Korean Wave as a reflection of the structural transformations in global media production and distribution systems. This chapter highlights the salience and urgency in decolonizing scholarly discussions concerning the Korean Wave phenomenon in order to comprehend the centrality of Korean creators and practitioners in the global media market within the logic of the new global media economy
