Sogpho Tibetan is a Khams Tibetan variety spoken in Danba County in western Sichuan, China, a region that borders the Tibetan and rGyalrong speaking area and Han China. This chapter explores the phonological system and provides an analysis of its peculiar phonetic and lexical features. It gives illustrative examples for the phonemes listed, and discusses some phonetic properties, particularly the phonetic features of the tonemes. The chapter compares the phonological and lexical features of Sogpho Tibetan with Written Tibetan (WrT) and other Tibetan dialects, especially those spoken in the so-called Ethnic Corridor of West Sichuan, in order to illustrate the peculiar nature of Sogpho Tibetan. The main purpose of this is to consider the development in a typological perspective. Due to its complex ethnic, historical and linguistic background, the Twenty-four villages' patois underwent many influences through language contact and therefore a regular pattern of sound changes cannot be expected. Keywords: twenty-four villages' patois; phonemes; phonological system; Sogpho Tibetan
