In recent publications by Jrgen Habermas, the "Axial Age" (800-200 BCE) is represented as the introduction of "dualistic world-views" that comprise a deep and a surface structure and distinguish between transcendence and immanence. This paper interprets the much older "Heliopolitan Cosmogony" (from 25th century BCE to Late Antiquity) as a monistic and immanentistic world-view, in which God acts, not as creator, but as origin of the world in the form of a creatio ex Deo. Greek and Latin texts secure the European afterlife of the Heliopolitan world-view until the time of Goethe and beyond
