This chapter discusses some of the women who belonged to the Julio-Claudian dynasty. It is difficult to retrace their actual lives because ancient sources so clearly manipulated the events of their lives in order to denigrate ruling emperors with whom they were associated. Above all, their role was to give birth to a legal heir of the emperor. They were very rich and possessed an excellent education, one they passed on to their children and grandchildren. They played an important role in charitable activities, contributed to the support (or lack of same) that the Romans gave to the emperor, and they also been served as icons of glamour, as evidenced by their iconographic representations
