He is the author of Chinese Dreams (2004), The Hypothetical Mandarin (2009), and On Literary Worlds (2012), and the co-editor, with Steven G.Yao and Haun Saussy, of Sinographies: Writing China (2007). He is co-editing, with Rebecca Walkowitz, A New Vocabulary for Global Modernism. His newest book, The Elements of Academic Style, will appear in summer 2014 from Columbia University Press.
