Research Article| September 01 2016 The Extra-Capitalist Extreme Alissa G. Karl Alissa G. Karl SUNY College at Brockport [email protected] Alissa G. Karl is Associate Professor of English at the State University of New York, Brockport. Her research investigates the intersection of economics and literary and cultural form in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. She is author of Modernism and the Marketplace: Literary Culture and Consumer Capitalism in Rhys, Woolf, Stein and Nella Larsen (Routledge 2009), and her work has appeared in such journals as Novel: A Forum on Fiction, American Literature, Modern Fiction Studies, Textual Practice, and The Journal of Cultural Economy. Currently she is finishing a monograph titled Novels, Machines and the Twentieth-Century Economic Imaginary, and beginning new research on what the novel can tell us about empathy and precarity in the economic present.
