マリ南西部の農村では,1990年代後半以降,「トン」と呼ばれる共同労働組織が急増している。この背景には,経済自由化などの理由から村内の現金流通量が増加したことがある。トンは植民地期以前からみられたが,近年増加している組織は子どもと既婚女性がそれぞれ新たに組織化したものである。本論では,一農村を事例にトンの歴史的な変遷を示した後に,子どものトンの経済活動の特徴を既婚女性のトンとの比較から明らかにする。両組織の経済活動は,「現金を対価として共同労働を行い,組織としてそれを貯蓄し,宴で消費する」という共通点がみられるものの,異なる論理に基づいて営まれている。既婚女性のトンが生活上の必要を満たすために営まれているのに対し,子どものトンは活動それ自体を楽しむこと,それのみに目的性をみいだしうる。こうした目的性の違いは,一方が固定的であり他方が流動的であるメンバーシップをもつ組織構成の違いにも表れている。トンがもとより有していた両義性と分化への性向,個人を構成単位とする組織のあり方が,両組織が同じ「トン」でありながらこうした対照的ともいえる特徴をもつことを可能にしたと考えられる
