Field notes often fluctuate betweenwhat the anthropologist considers important towrite and what others believe is important for himto write. This article intends to reflect on this spe-cific process of fieldwork. Not necessarily to inquireabout the epistemological issues that are relatedwith the act of taking notes, but to try out someconsiderations about the relation that this very actshapes between the observer and the observed. Thisarticle proposes a trajectory into the authors’ fieldsof research – the judicial and police fields – andthrough the questions raised by such act of takingnotes in these contexts. The purpose is to establisha dialogue between both fieldworks and to sketch acertain interpretation of the impact caused by thevery act of taking notes in these fields by contrast-ing different experiences
