The author describes research into the impact of transgenerational trauma and how such trauma is passed from generation to generation in the process of bonding between parents and children. She argues that a disturbed and confused family system can be the result of unresolved historical trauma. She considers ways to address clinical issues that arise and where systemic and individual approaches may be needed. Theory and methodology from family constellations work are integrated with transactional analysis and an understanding of trauma. Questions are raised about how we might understand cure after such difficulties
