Berne developed transactional analysis in groups and was deeply interested in their process, structure, and dynamics. In this article the author explores how long-term couples work can be aided by a group lens that attends to group process informed by systems theory. Through a case study and concepts from Landaiche’s synthesis of the 3Bs—Berne, Bion, and Bowen—he illustrates how applying a group lens can support exploring the origins of a couple’s relational templates and manifestation in the couple’s past, present, and therapeutic systems of relating
